Quality, food safety and environmental management policy of Conservas Cusumano, S.A.
Guided by the principle “QUALITY FIRST”, in every sense, from product to business to environmental impact, the company’s senior management is committed to maintaining a dynamic and continuously updated Quality, Food Safety and Environmental Management System, providing the necessary human and material resources to ensure its proper operation and effectiveness.
The general guidelines and operating principles established to achieve and uphold these objectives are as follows:
- Compliance with the legal and regulatory requirements established by governmental bodies (Basque Government, Central Government, Provincial Councils, etc.) applicable to company operations and the manufacture of its products.
- Compliance with environmental and sustainability standards, as well as other applicable or reference frameworks (ISO 14001, MSC Certification, APR, FOS, etc.), as part of our commitment to protecting the environment from the impact of our activities.
- Protection of consumers and customers, who are the most valuable and central part of our activity, by ensuring the production of safe products in accordance with current legislation.
- Continuous improvement in the quality of our preserved products within a system focused on enhancing all our services, ensuring customer and stakeholder satisfaction, maintaining sustainability (environmental, business, and safety), and improving environmental performance.
- Training and information for all company employees in Quality, Food Safety, and Environmental Management, as well as in the Code of Conduct (BSCI), with continuous improvement established as a guiding principle within the organisation.
- Meeting the highest demands of our customers, by complying with their requirements, specifications, and needs to achieve full satisfaction; including all regulatory requirements applicable to our organisation and products.
- Strict control of all stages of the process, from the reception of raw and auxiliary materials to dispatch, including the production of canned fish products in both metal and glass containers, ensuring that product quality and safety requirements, specifications, and the procedures of the Quality, Food Safety, and Environmental Management System are fully met.
- Assumption of our environmental, social, labour, and ethical responsibilities, through the production of safe products under safe working conditions, in full respect of the environment, and ensuring customer satisfaction with their use.

- Ensuring the production of safe products for the health of the end customer through the implementation of a HACCP system and established food safety standards.
- Periodic verification of the Quality and Food Safety Management System to ensure its effectiveness and continuous improvement.
The Company also undertakes, in line with its ethical responsibility, to continually integrate safe working conditions and employee wellbeing, as well as to ensure non-discrimination based on race, origin, gender, religion, age, social background, sexual orientation, marital status, political affiliation, or any other condition that could lead to discrimination.

To achieve the implementation and maintenance of these principles, a Quality, Food Safety, and Environmental Management System has been established, based on key reference standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, IFS, MSC Chain of Custody, APR, FOS, Code of Conduct – BSCI, etc.). The Senior Management of Conservas Cusumano, S.A. is committed to providing the necessary technical resources, personnel, organisational structure, and training programmes to ensure the proper implementation and operation of this Management System.
Senior Management will communicate this Quality, Food Safety, and Environmental Policy to all staff to ensure it is understood, implemented, and maintained. It will also be made publicly available on the company website so that our collaborators (distributors, representatives, etc.), customers, and other stakeholders are informed.

Environmental commitments of Conservas Cusumano, S.A.
Conservas CUSUMANO SA, as a company committed to the environment, aims to implement an ambitious plan based on the following areas:
IMPROVING ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION EFFICIENCY: To this end:
- Photovoltaic plant. Reducing CO2 emissions by 334,028 kg, equivalent to saving 89,621 kg of coal since its installation.
- We have acquired new machinery, which is more efficient and productive.
IMPROVING GAS CONSUMPTION EFFICIENCY: To this end:
- We have invested in modifying our production processes where gas is required, with the goal of reducing our dependence on gas.
IMPROVING INDUSTRIAL WATER TREATMENT PROCESSES:
- Strengthening the treatment of industrial wastewater to minimise its generation and reduce the environmental impact of this activity.
These initiatives help the company actively safeguard the environment in its local area, the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve.
